How do I know my healthy weight? |

|
How can you know what your healthy weight is, and whether your weight and/or size is jeopardizing your health?
We all know that being overweight is unhealthy, and so is being underweight or too skinny. Good health doesn’t just depend on your weight though, it depends on a whole variety of factors including:
• your medical history • your family's medical history
• genetics
• bad habits like smoking or drinking
• what types of food you eat
• your level of exercise.
Because of this, it’s difficult to apply an ideal healthy weight to everyone.
To complicate matters more, many people seem to have a distorted idea about what exactly a healthy weight is.
Perhaps this is because we are all too often faced with a myriad of images of celebrities and glamorous people in the media, many of whom are in no way at a healthy weight. Society sometimes glamorizes excessive thinness and being underweight, especially for women. And looking in your mirror may not help –subconsciously most people compare themselves to other people (back to those images we are surrounded by), which clouds our thinking, rather than being objective about what we see in the mirror. |
